ZTE, Nvidia team up to launch Tegra 4 handsets in China
First unveiled at CES, Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 4 chipset will be featured in ZTE smartphones coming in the next few months.
The Chinese phone manufacturer, ZTE, has teamed up with Nvidia to launch a line of quad-core smartphones slated for midyear or earlier. These handsets will feature the Tegra 4 chipset, which was unveiled last month during CES 2013.
Based on ARM Cortex-A15 architecture, Tegra 4 is expected to be much faster and more powerful than its predecessor, which was based on ARM Cortex-A9.
Tegra 4 also features six times as many graphics cores (bringing the total to 72) than its predecessor.
Along with building these quad-core devices, ZTE announced that it plans on making one phone that will also feature Nvidia's i500 processor, which will enable 4G LTE voice and data capabilities.
ZTE already has a few quad-core handsets under its belt (like the Nubia Z5, and the more recent Grand S). And with handsets like the Tegra 3-sporting ZTE Grand Era U985, we know it's no stranger to working with Nvidia.
However, many of these quad-core devices rarely make it to the U.S. ZTE was one of the earliest phone manufacturers to officially announce building handsets featuring Tegra 4, and it'd be interesting to see and experience how fast these phones turn out to be.
