Ziff drops Interactive Week, cuts staff

Publisher Ziff Davis Media says it will stop publishing Interactive Week. Stories typically found in the magazine will run in a section inside sister publication eWeek. The combined magazine expects to have a circulation of 445,000, with about 45,000 subscribers coming from Interactive Week. The company said it will continue to publish an Interactive Week-branded Web site and newsletters. A Ziff representative said the company will eliminate 75 positions from both magazines' sales and editorial departments. The closures come as Ziff focuses on IT publications that will attract computer professionals and enthusiasts. The company has recently launched Baseline, a monthly publication targeting executives; ExtremeTech.com, a Web site aimed at "hard-core technologists;" and CIO Insight, a monthly magazine designed for senior-level technology executives. Ziff also said Monday that Smart Partner magazine has ceased publication with its Nov. 1 issue.
