Your laptop as boom box

With as much music as the standard laptop holds these days, it's no surprise people are looking for a way to pump up the volume louder than those rinky-dink speakers installed in the computer can handle.

In keeping with the trend toward mobile computing, Logitech announced its first speakers designed specifically for laptop owners. The compact and lightweight V20 speakers are expected to be available for $79.99 in the U.S. beginning in September, and will show up in Europe in October.

The black USB-powered speakers work with both PCs and Macs. They fold away and fit in a protective travel case that's included with each purchase.

Logitech installed controls into the top of the speakers so there's no more fumbling with a notebook keyboard or trying to fiddle with the controls on the laptop.

The black boxes are somewhat of a hybrid between Logitech's mm50 Portable Speakers for iPod and its X-120 series of low-watt speakers. The V20 speakers similarly use a combination of 2-inch high-excursion drivers and 3-inch pressure drivers for better volume with less distortion and lots of bass response.
