Yahoo, Target team up for digital photo service

Target Yahoo Photos lets people store and print their digital photos, and share them with others over Yahoo IM.

Yahoo on Thursday announced a new digital photo service in partnership with retail chain Target.

The service, called Target Yahoo Photos, is designed to let people store, share and print their digital and camera-phone photos.

The service will be launched on the Target.com Web site and in stores this month. In the fall, customers will have the option of ordering prints online and picking them up from Target stores within a few hours, the companies said.

The growing popularity of digital cameras and camera phones has propelled several new photo-printing services that let consumers order prints of their digital photos. Microsoft has added an icon in its Windows XP software to let people order prints of their photos and pick them up from Fujifilm stores. Retail chain Wal-Mart Stores offers a similar service on its Web site.

With Target Yahoo Photos, photos can also be shared via Yahoo's instant messaging service. Consumers can order tailor-made gifts such as mugs, aprons and magnets using their favorite photos and have the gifts delivered.
