Xbox One update lets you snap screenshots of gameplay
The update also will suggest new friends, allow the use of your real name and enable you to report spam messages.
Want to record memorable moments of gameplay on your Xbox One? The March update to Microsoft's game console will let you do just that.
Currently rolling out only to members of the Xbox preview program, the March update adds what Microsoft calls a "highly requested feature": the ability to take screenshots. The update offers a couple of different ways to snap your screen, according to Wednesday blog post by Xbox Live chief Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson.
You can double-tap the Xbox button on your controller to take the screenshot and then press the Y button to save it. You can also say "Xbox take a screenshot" to your Xbox One, and it will be snapped and saved. You can then view your screenshots and even set one as your background picture. In future updates, you'll be able to post your screenshots to your activity feed, attach them to messages and share them on Twitter.
Microsoft adds requested features to its Xbox One on a monthly basis to satisfy current owners and potentially attract new buyers. To avoid bugs and other problems, Microsoft elicits feedback on new features from its Xbox previewers, who test new updates before Microsoft expands them to all console owners.
The March update will also suggest new friends based on your location and your existing friends list. You'll also have an option of sharing your real name -- not just your gamertag -- with your friends or the entire Xbox One community. Though sharing your real name removes a level of anonymity, it can make it easier for people to find you.
Offering one more notable improvement, the March update will let you tell Microsoft if a specific message you receive is spam.
