Working with TypeStyler 3

I was working the TypeStyler 3 this past week. I continue to be impressed with all this program can do, especially its special web features for creating banners, JavaScript rollovers, animated graphics and more. I also liked the "little" touches - such as the small window that appears as you glide your cursor over the items in most of TypeStyler's menus, graphically showing you what each item does.

But there are still a few rough edges to the program. The most frustrating was getting an error message on launch that said that the TypeStyler Libraries files were corrupt and needed to be replaced. I did replace them, only to see the same error return two more times over the next three days. Also, I could not always launch a TypeStyler document from the Finder. If I tried I would get a "File not found" error (the file would still open from within TypeStyler). Finally, freezes and crashes occasionally occurred (with no easily defined pattern emerging as to when they would occur).

We contacted Strider Software's Dave Stillman about these matters and he replied that rebuilding the desktop often (although not always) fixes the "File not found" error. As to the Libraries corruption error, others have reported it but they have not been able to replicate it as yet. Freezes and crashes can generally be fixed by increasing TypeStyler's memory allocation. Finally, they are working on an update to TypeStyler that should squash all of these bugs. No release date has been set.
