A reader has encountered a problem with incorrect timestamps on saved files. We have not been able to recreate the problem here, but given that Microsoft has acknowledged the problem exists at least for some users, we report it here. Stephen Neale writes:

"When saving Word files in OS X, they are recorded in the Finder as last saved at GMT 7 hours ahead of the system clock. Checking the time of a save with Command confirms the erroneous time. Yet under Properties inside Word, the correct time is shown, suggesting the problem is, as Microsoft says, with the OS. Closing and reopening Word does not fix the problem, nor does rebooting or fiddling with the Date and Time preferences.

Moreover, although you can still open and work with the latest document, it seems you cannot attach the current version of a Word file to an Entourage mail message if its save time is later than the time set on the computer, which of course it will be because of the timestamp error. Microsoft acknowledges the glitch, but says its Apple's problem to fix."

Update: Stephen Neale adds: "I received e-mail from about ten people who had the same timestamp error in 10.1.2, not just with MS Word files, but also Photoshop, and Quicken data. One person claims Apple was aware of the problem and that it occurs if the time zone is changed to a new day with applications open. Whatever the cause, the bug has disappeared in 10.1.3, not just on my machine but on four other machines."
