Word 98 and WordPerfect translations

Word 98 can not open WordPerfect 6.x files (PC) or WordPerfect for Mac 2.x and 3.x files. However, it can open WordPerfect 5.x (PC) files and save to the 5.x format. David Kinney first spotted this in Microsoft's KnowledgeBase article #Q183139. Microsoft told him "there is no plan to create any more converters for WordPerfect."

Update: Microsoft has a Word Free Software web page that lists "Supplemental Converters for Microsoft Word 6.0 for the Macintosh." It includes converters for "WordPerfect for the Macintosh version 2.x and 3.x formats." Even though it says it is just for Word 6, Jon Mau reports that they worked fine with Word 98.
