Windows98 without Explorer, 98lite, works with SoftWindows

CNET staff
If you want to use Windows98 without also installing Internet Explorer, there is a program called 98lite that claims to do this. This supposedly has the added bonus of significantly speeding up Windows performance. Christian Kent tried it with his version of SoftWindows and found that it worked well. He adds two tips: "(1) The VRTWD.386 Intel Real-Time Clock virtual device driver will crash the system at startup; (2) If you get the SoftWindows error dialog 'vmouse.vxd not supported,' simply use 'Update Driver' to change the mouse driver to use the one on the D: drive Insignia supplies to you."
