Win CE printing now at hand
Handheld PC users now have a way to print their documents with technology from Bsquare Development.
The $29.95 software is the first solution for Windows CE printing, according to the Bellevue, Washington, company. It supports printing of text, bitmap, faxes, and Pocket Word documents. Pocket Word is a miniature version of Microsoft Word designed for handhelds that run the Windows CE operating system.
BSquare also ships bFax, fax software for Windows CE, and will soon ship bMobile, wireless access software that works with a cellular digital packet data modem to give users mobile Internet access. The company hopes to ship bMobile by the end of the month for $29.95.
Released at the Comdex show last November, Windows CE currently runs on personal digital assistants from Casio and Compaq Computer, although several other PDA makers have announced their intent to use the operating system.
The rollout encountered problems earlier this year when faulty software drivers were found to drain the device's battery power and cause loss of data. The hardware manufacturers worked with Microsoft to issue a patch in mid-February.
