AT&T confirmed that hundreds or even thousands of customers in at least three states-Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois—suffered from a widespread DSL outage on Wednesday.

A company spokesman said the outage was due to a software upgrade on DSL equipment serving the customers in these regions. He was unable to give specifics about the number of customers affected. The outage began early this morning, and some customers are still without service. AT&T is currently working to restore service to all customers. The industry web site Broadband Reports was the first publication to report the outage.
