Microsoft's Photosynth turns any collection of photos into an amazing 3D view of the world. The more pictures, the better!

Microsoft Photosynth has been around for a few years now, and it's a fantastic and fun way to turn a series of photos into a 3D environment. It's a lot like taking a panorama photo, except that a Photosynth lets you move around and walk around an object to get a total surround view of something interesting. In fact, it's like the opposite of a panorama — one is a surround view from where you stand, and the other is a view of one thing from all kinds of surrounding positions.

Photosynth is a great camera tool from Microsoft, and you can download everything you need from photosynth.net. It's a Windows-only application, and once installed it will analyse your series of photos and piece them together into this fascinating 3D collage. The service also lets you upload your synth into the Photosynth website, where it can be shared with anyone you like.

Even if you don't want to make a Photosynth, a visit to the website will let you explore all kinds of synths made in great locations around the world.
