Where's my Web desktop?

Imagine a Web site that offers you an empty window that you can add wallpaper to and then simply drag and drop files into it

I don't know about you, but I find my desktop an awkward and intimidating place to be -- it's cluttered and almost indecipherable. It's not that I can't find files if I have to, I just use a desktop search client and hey presto I'll find what I'm looking for, but the process can be slow and infuriating.

The weird thing is that all the content I have on my desktop could easily be online and yet there isn't a Web-based all-in-one solution that can do what I need it to. Google seems to be leading the way when it comes to creating online alternatives to traditional software, but what I really want is an online desktop with Google search speed and functionality.

Imagine a Web site that offers you an empty window that you can add wallpaper to and then simply drag and drop files into it. It looks and feels like a standard desktop, but here's the difference -- at the top there's a search bar, which gives you instant access to files and you can access this desktop from any computer in the world. You can view all your files via your Web browser too, without needing to install any client-side software.

Am I the only person who doesn't understand why this hasn't been created yet? All the current offerings seem to segment how your files are stored over a multitude of Web-based clients, or offer you remote access to your desktop at home, which is a cool solution but at times slow and confusing. If this already exists, please let me know -- otherwise, can someone build this now? Thank you.
