Where to follow the Nokia Lumia 1020 EOS launch on CNET
CNET will be at Nokia's New York launch event this afternoon with all the news, plus hands-on photos and video of its new camera phone.
It hardly seems worth having an event. Nokia's new 41-megapixel Lumia 1020 camera phone has been so extensively teased by the company itself, and leaked all over the Internet, that we'd be extremely surprised if there were any surprises at this afternoon's launch.
Nevertheless, CNET will be there in New York with bells on from 3.45pm UK time. We'll bring you all the news as it happens in our liveblog, starring the many and varied talents of CNET.com's Brian Bennett, Roger Cheng and Maggie Reardon.
Hands-on first impressions, photos and video will follow shortly thereafter as our expert team gets its fondling apparatus all over the new photo-blower.
Nokia's invite for the event promises '41 million reasons to get excited', so we can take it as read its ludicrous 41-megapixel sensor -- last seen on the preposterous 808 PureView -- will be on board. It says it'll 'reinvent zoom' too, whatever that means.
The image above appeared today on The Verge -- it's the standard press pic of the new phone, leaked ahead of time. If you want to see more, have a butcher's at this video on US network AT&T's official YouTube account (before it's taken down -- I'd hurry).
The 1020's latest leaked specs indicate we'll encounter a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon chip powering Windows Phone 8. Its 4.5-inch AMOLED screen is set to be a high-definition 1,280x768-pixel affair. Those aren't top of the range specs, but I'm more interested on all the camera gubbins Nokia crams in -- that's where it can add the most value.
Nokia's last event, here in London in May, revealed the Dolly Parton-themed Lumia 925, which made a living being a slimmer, lighter Lumia 920 with a marginally improved camera. The purported Lumia 1020 should be significantly more exciting.
