What's the one mobile game you can't stop playing?
Addicted to Trivia Crack? Crossy Road? Room-escape puzzles? Let's talk up the games you can't put down.
Way back, it was Angry Birds. Then came Words With Friends. Then Candy Crush Saga. Now, like roughly half the planet, I'm hopelessly addicted to Trivia Crack . (Has there ever been a more aptly named game?)
Raise your hand if you've been there. You know how it is: You're at dinner, your partner goes to the bathroom, you whip out your phone to sneak in a few levels. You're at your kid's soccer game, and instead of watching the action (or "action"), you're tapping away.
In other words, everywhere you go, every time you've got a few minutes to spare, you can't help yourself: a few more taps, a few more questions, a few more levels. Addiction, thy name is smartphone games!
But which one? Everyone I know is playing Trivia Crack; it's undeniably the "it" game right now. Of course, its endless ads for Game of War have propelled that title onto countless millions of phones, while smaller newcomers like aa and Crossy Road have crept up the charts to satisfy more game addicts.
So here's the question: What's the one mobile game you can't stop playing? And the follow-up: why?
Is it just the pleasure of something new and different? Or do you find yourself sticking with your same favorites over the long haul, returning to "oldies" like Words With Friends over and over? Are there other reasons?
Interestingly, two of my current favorites resulted from experiencing their real-world counterparts. My brother-in-law Steve introduced my family to a simple but addicting dice game, which a big group of us played together and loved. Turned out that game is called Farkle, and there are numerous versions available for Android and iOS.
Likewise, last summer I tried my first room-escape adventure, fell head-over-heels in love with the whole concept, and now enjoy a variety of room-escape games on my iPhone. A quick survey of fellow CNET writers revealed some longstanding love for Sudoku, a game that also has real-world origins.
