What's new in Retrospect 4.3 (coming soon)

CNET staff
Eric-Jan Japing received the following information from Dantz about the new features in their soon-to-be-released (due by August) Retrospect 4.3: File backup sets can now be greater than 2 GB on Mac OS 9 and later HFS hard drives. Retrospect Express 4.3 will also include file backup sets as well, a long time customer request. Support for USB and FireWire CD-RW drives. We worked with Adaptec to provide Retrospect access to the Toast USB/FireWire drivers, a problem which stopped us from trying to support more USB and FireWire CD-R/RW drives previously. Improved OnStream tape drive support. We now support the USB OnStream Echo 30 and the SCSI OnStream SC50. In addition, we fixed a couple of OnStream related issues to improve searching performance during restores. Improved performance with higher performance drives (most ADK drives, DDS3 and DDS4, and Ecrix drives among others) on fast computers (G3/G4) with high end SCSI cards such as the Adaptec Ultra2 SCSI card available as part of a G4 bundle from Apple. In addition, we have increased the performance of the DLT 7000 and 8000 in general with new tapes. The new Retrospect and forthcoming Retrospect Express bootable CDs are now based on Mac OS 9.0.4, so we are current for all shipping Macs and the latest operating system.
