Wi-Fi connectivity is becoming increasingly common in new cameras, letting photographers transfer images and videos to a smartphone, or control the camera remotely. Owners of older models may be feeling a little left out.
Enter the Weye Feye, a box that connects via USB to a range of Nikon or Canon SLRs and creates an ad-hoc wireless network. Coverage is up to 80 metres and latency is just 200ms, which should make for responsive shooting.
Once the connection has been established, photographers can use the app on their iOS or Android device to activate Live View, change exposure parameters, adjust focus and start to take images or video remotely.
Measuring 8.3x4.5x1.6cm, the device is small enough to sit on a tripod, or possibly mounted with a coldshoe on the top of an SLR. Battery life is rated at seven to eight hours when using Live View mode, and 14 hours in gallery mode for transferring and reviewing images. The Weye Feye will be available from September in Europe for €249.
