Watch this man text from the bonnet of a speeding car
This video of a man car surfing while on his phone has to be seen to be believed.
It's dangerous enough, using your phone while driving, but this chap has gone a step further and clambered out onto the bonnet to send a text message.
The man, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was caught on camera using his phone from atop a speeding car, the Toronto Sun reports. I've embedded the video after the break -- trust me, it has to be seen to be believed.
The video starts while approaching the car from behind. Something's not right -- it looks like someone's maybe poking their head out of the sunroof. Bit unorthodox, but fair enough.
It quickly becomes apparent that's not the case, though. Soon we're neck and neck with the car, and there's a man hunched over on the bonnet, looking down at his phone, as you do.
At first I thought maybe it was an ornament of some kind, made to look like a real man, as he's not moving much. But then he kicks back, reclining on the windscreen, legs crossed, texting away.
Before you know it he's kicking his legs in the air, having a whale of a time. It's like a low-rent version of the "I'm flying" bit in Titanic.
What's equally as worrying is that whoever filmed the clip was driving while they did so.
On a serious note, using your phone at the wheel is very dangerous. Talking to voice apps is just as perilous, according to a recent study, as it's just as distracting, and can double your reaction time.
The Department of Transport's Think! campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of using your phone at the wheel, pointing out that you're four times more likely to crash. And it is illegal to use your phone while driving, whether it be making calls, texting, or videoing some berk who's climbed onto the bonnet of his mate's car.
