Watch the Sydney Opera House light up

What does it take to cover the iconic Sydney Opera House in large-scale projections every night? CNET finds out about the tech behind the scenes at this year's Vivid Festival.

Iconic Sydney landmarks are lighting up the dark as the annual Vivid Festival takes over the city in a celebration of light, music and ideas.

As part of the two-week event, the Sydney Opera House is bathed in large-scale projections every night with thousands of visitors watching the free light show.

This year, UK company 59 Productions is responsible for lighting the sails against the Sydney skyline. The team has previously been involved as video designers for the London Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

CNET checks out what it takes to bring this large-scale work to life in the video above.

Other landmarks that get the light treatment include the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which is lit up with thousands of LED tubes controlled by viewers on the ground.
