An image of what is reportedly the protagonist of Watch Dogs 2 has appeared online. The picture, which you can see below, was found on an Instagram profile belonging to King, a performance artist.

The account is now private, but an image of the post was captured by NerdLeaks. It features what looks to be a character of Asian descent sporting a baseball cap and a bandana covering his mouth.

He's also wearing a messenger bag, while holding a gun in one hand and a phone in another. Phones were a key part of the first game, as they were used by protagonist Aiden Pearce to hack the world around him.

The caption alongside the image reads "had a blast doing motion capture work as the lead character in a new video game series." The accompanying hashtags name Watch Dogs 2 specifically.

Although Ubisoft has confirmed Watch Dogs 2 is in development, it has not released any further details about the title. The image looks to be a work-in-progress render of a character, with a plain background, and so has naturally aroused some suspicions about legitimacy. GameSpot has contact Ubisoft for a comment.

Ubisoft previously stated a sequel to Watch Dogs will launch before the end of its next financial year, which is April 2017.

In April 2015, a senior gameplay programmer at Ubisoft indicated work on Watch Dogs 2 was already underway. The developer, who worked on the original Watch Dogs and its expansion, listed Watch Dogs 2 on a CV.

The first Watch Dogs sold more than 9 million copies into retail, and its creative director has been vocal about what he would like to do with the franchise next.
