WAP mail access for .Mac users WAP Mac is a new service which allows .Mac subscribers to check their mac.com email accounts using their data capable mobile phone. "Because this service is only for .Mac subscribers it means no user configuration or settings is required. One simply puts in their login and their email is presented." The free service includes the ability to browse and read messages. A "donation" of $15 will allow you to reply and compose messages as well. More.

The great Internet tax debate The New York Times reports that the online tax debate has suddenly become loud and bitter, with Wal-Mart Stores and Amazon.com as the leading antagonists. "But the recent activity over Internet sales taxes may have only minimal impact on consumers and tax collectors, many retail executives and industry analysts say. That is because many of the biggest traditional merchants, including Sears, Roebuck; Gap; and Circuit City Stores, have long been collecting sales taxes from their online customers. And the biggest online tax resistors - Amazon, eBay and Dell Computer - seem unlikely to start collecting sales taxes any time soon." More.

MacTelnet not discontinued Kevin Grant lets us know that his MacTelnet software has not been discontinued - the domain name server has just stopped properly forwarding users to the correct Web site. "There is a problem with "www.mactelnet.com", and that I'm working to resolve the issue. People have already started to assume that my Mac software is being discontinued. The web site for MacTelnet is http://homepage.mac.com/kmg/mactelnet/, but MacTelnet.com has not been forwarding to it correctly for the past week. I expect the issue to be resolved soon."

Fortune praises Itanium 2 A Fortune online article looks at Intel's Itanium 2 processor, which is expected to put some heat under IBM and Sun in the server market. "It has the ability to take on IBM, sink Sun, make or break HP, and crush or revive AMD. It's keeping every CEO in computing up at night. And it's just getting started. The multibillion-dollar battle between Itanium 2 and its rivals has begun." More.
