Want a job at an Apple store: a follow-up

We have heard from others who have sought jobs at an Apple store after our item last week on the subject. Here are a few highlights:

"I'd like to comment upon the article dealing with looking for a job at Apple. Everything that the author stated is true. I applied twice through Apple's Jobs page and waited three weeks before remembering and trying again. This time, and what seems to work best, is setting up a Search for job openings in your city. If there's nothing available immediately, just save the search. You will constantly get notices about openings, and if you reply to any search notifications, you stand a very, very good chance at being contacted. As an example, I set up a search for Los Angeles, Full and/or Part-time, and within two weeks received ten job offers. Remember, what they really look for is speaking skills, listening skills, Mac knowledge, and team-players. I'm happy to report that my method worked, as I had an Apple Store job three weeks after submitting my resume."

"As a longtime Apple fan and someone who would give a kidney for a Genius Bar gig I'd like to add my experiences with my 2 applications for Genius Bar positions. I applied for the Valley Fair store in San Jose, CA within hours of it being posted to Apple's site. I was called this past week by someone who didn't give his name but identified himself as being the 'very recently hired' manager for Apple's retail efforts in the western half of the US. He conducted an interview and was also very personable and generous with his time on the phone. To my dismay I again lost out on my shot for the GB. I'm still in the running for retail position and training for a promotion to GB.

Acording to my phone interviewer, they have raised the standard for GB qualifications and now I no longer qualify. This is a tall order as I have been a professional consultant specializing in the Mac for 12 years, I'm impressed by the level of personel they are bringing to the stores and by the friendliness and tech savvy of the people they have screening the applicaitons."
