Virtual PC glitch when changing time zones

CNET staff
Dan Frakes was bitten by avariation of the Daylight Saving Time bug (see previous item) with his use of Virtual PC. In particular, he writes: "When you quit Virtual PC, it allows you to "save" the PC state. The next time you launch it, it loads more quickly. In the last week, whenever I tried this I kept getting an error that said: "Sorry, cannot proceed with restore. The hard drive media has been modified since the PC state was saved."

He eventually figured out the reason: during a trip, he had changed the time zone via Date & Time on his PowerBook. Somehow this caused the error to occur.

Note: Dan was using Mac OS 8.5.1. The original DST problem affected Mac OS 8.1, but was fixed in 8.5.
