Virtual PC eReg program crashes on blue and white G3's

CNET staff
Arthur Busbey reports that he could not get Virtual PC 2.1 to install on his G3/BW: "Everything worked fine until the registration window comes up - at that point everything freezes up. Attempts to run VPC after this say it was incorrectly installed." I contacted Connectix about this and they replied:
The electronic registration program in the Virtual PC installer (1.0 through 2.1.1) is not compatible with Blue & White G3's. The eReg program scans the SCSI bus to profile the system. Unfortunately, it doesn't properly handle the new machines without SCSI. The workaround: Blue and White G3 users should turn off virtual memory before running the Virtual PC installer. When the eReg program appears hit "Cancel". Installation should then complete and VPC will function properly. Customers can send in the postage-paid registration card or register from our web site. This eReg program has been removed from Virtual PC 2.1.2 installer.

Update: A reader claims that turning off virtual memory avoided the crash.
