Virex: getting 5.9 and info about future updates

A statement from Network Associates (as posted on MacInTouch and MacNN) notes that: "Users of Virex 5.8.1 are entitled to a free upgrade to Virex 5.9, as are our Mcafee VirusScan for Mac customers. Virex 5.9 is currently available for our licensed customers via our licensed FTP server." You supposedly need a login ID and password to access the server; call 408-988-3832 to get them.

The letter also states that new definitions files for Virex and VirusScan are coming soon, but that support for VirusScan will end in early 1999.

They are working on a fix for the Virex and Mac OS 8.5 problem, but it will not be available for at least another few months.

According to several reports, you may not be able to download Virex 5.9 from Internet Explorer.
