Vertical lines in display: Seti@Home the cause?

Vertical lines in display: Seti@Home the cause?

CNET staff
Several readers have now reported a similar symptom: a window that gets filled with vertical lines. For example, Hugh Caley writes: "When I click on the Mailbox button in Mail, and my list of mailboxes pops out, it is completely covered with vertical lines and is unreadable. Hiding and unhiding Mail will refresh it." Chris Waters writes: "After upgrading to 10.0.2, 1 strange things happens to application windows when I move them. Vertical lines appear and do not go away until you minimize the window or something happens inside the window."

The same symptom has been reported in this MacFixIt Forums thread (10.0.2 random reboots, strange colors moving windows ). Postings there suggest that shifting resolutions (change and then change back) via the Displays System Preferences will fix this. They also implicate Seti@home as the cause. Consistent with this Hugh noted that the problem began after waking up from Seti's screensaver "sleep."
