Verizon responds to AT&T, adds 29 LTE markets
Verizon customers in Selma, Ala., and Port Angeles, Wash., are among those getting access to the company's 4G LTE network.
Verizon has added 29 new LTE markets to its service.
The company announced today that Selma, Ala., and Port Angeles, Wash., are among the many markets getting access to its LTE service today. With those cities added, Verizon now offers its LTE service in 470 markets across the U.S. Verizon said today that it's also expanding its LTE availability in 36 existing markets, bringing its total coverage to more than 250 million people.
Verizon's announcement comes just a couple of days after AT&T announced that it has brought its LTE network to five cities, bringing its total to 125 cities.
Verizon has been quick to point out the stark contrast between AT&T's availability and its own. However, AT&T argues that its network is faster. In a study on carrier networks, Consumer Reports came down on AT&T's side, saying that it has the best 4G LTE network of any U.S.-based carrier.
Still, Verizon is ahead of schedule in terms of availability. The company announced a goal earlier this year of having 400 LTE markets in operation by year's end. Verizon hit that mark two months ahead of schedule.
