Utilities Updates: SoundApp; FontAgent; SimpleEdit; more

Text Cleaner Lite 1.51is out. It is the freeware version of the commercial package Text Cleaner. Text Cleaner Lite provides correct typesetting marks and input error correction in one pass, eliminating the need for common search and replace routines. The 1.5 upgrade adds text preparation for the World-Wide Web by changing common text characters with no direct HTML conversion to their web-safe counterparts.

SoundApp 2.6.1 has been released. It includes: Improved the performance of MPEG playback with large buffers; Enhanced the ability to determine sound types when the Mac file type is set incorrectly; Added support for Iomega RecordIt files (which are AIFF files with MPEG layer II data inside). It also fixes several bugs, including a problem that would cause a crash when aborting an MPEG conversion.

FontAgent 2.7.5 is out. The latest update to this font repair and maintenance utility "boasts improved compatibility with a wider range of computers and font libraries; a new, user-friendly installer; and an improved interface with new graphics and enhanced Internet links. The update also incorporates several bug fixes."

SimpleEdit 3.4.3 is available. It is an enhanced replacement for Apple's SimpleText. This version fixes a font menu preference problem, is fully Appearance Manager & Themes compliant, and addresses a few other miscellaneous bugs.

KeyStrokes 1.2 provides a fully functional on-screen keyboard that you can use to type with the mouse anywhere you would use a normal (hardware) keyboard (applications, dialog boxes, etc.). The update fixes bugs from earlier versions.

Art-Scan 4.1 is due out very soon (4.0 is the current version). The update to this Twain Photoshop Plug-in will support connecting scanners via SCSI cards for all the scanners supported by Art-Scan, including: Microtek, Canon, Apple and more.

QMate 1.5 is the newest version of this Palm application for tracking expenses and then synching them with Quicken. It has been available from PilotGear HQ for the last couple of weeks. However, according to a reader, the version posted is actually an older outdated Mac version. The real latest version is available via this direct link.

EpsonShare 1.0 (the release version) is out. It "allows you to share a Stylus Color Epson printer between several Macintoshes, without additional network adapter card."

Keep Me Online 1.0 (the release version) is out. It helps prevent automated dropped connections.

OtherMenu 2.0.1is the latest update to this hierarchical menu utility.

GuardBit 1.0b2 is designed to fix a Retrospect conflict with some G3 upgrade cards.

MRJ plugin1.0d5 allows Netscape browsers to use MRJ.

Rebound 2.0b8 is the latest beta of this utility for restarting a crashed server.

Cruise Control 1.0 automates scheduling of running software (such as backup software) and performs other routine repetitive tasks.
