Utilities Updates: Quick Rename; NetFinder; Password Key; APS PowerTools; Font Reserve; more

Quick Rename 2.0.1 is a batch renaming tool that utilizes an assortment of naming schemes. This update fixes several bugs: modify options that were not saved to a scheme, the user input text of the Append Options were not saved, and a cosmetic bug where the Modify Sample text was not showing properly.

NetFinder 2.3 is an FTP client with a Finder-like interface which supports FTP, HTTP and browsing local hard disks. This update adds many new features, including an OS X version (Carbon), new documentation, new scripts, better support for different servers, and a large number of bug fixes.

Password Key 4.0.1 is a startup password security tool to control access to a Mac. This release adds an admin account, multiple user support with separate log files, user-definable colors, the password entry window now hides after a set time, and more.

APS PowerTools 6.4.2 is a disk drive format utility. This release fixes a problem with PocketDrives disappearing, it warns the user if Mac OS X is running, and it adds features for FireWire and FireWire CD-RW drives. It also allows arrays greater than 1.2 Terabytes.

Font Reserve 2.6 is a font management tool for organizing, maintaining and using fonts. This version expands Font Reserve's capabilities beyond simply managing fonts to allowing users to easily acquire new fonts. In addition, version 2.6 enhances automatic font activation in popular publishing applications.

Search & Rescue Classic 1.0 is a data recovery utility for hard drives published by Total Recall Software. It can recover multiple files at once, it works with SCSI, FireWire, USB and IDE drivers, and supports HFS, HFS , and Mac OS X volumes under Mac OS 9. We have no experience ourselves with this product, and we note that there are several less than favorable comments on VersionTracker. In addition, this product should not be confused with Thomas Riley's Search & Rescue 3.0.

x48 1.0.1 is a full-blown HP48GX calculator. This update adds Mac OS X support and the original ROM from HP is included. (HP has released it to the public.)

Link Tester 3.2.1 is a link check tool that helps find broken links on Web sites. This is a bug fix version that also recognizes links in more forms than the previous version.

Empower Pro Phone 1.0b2 is a utility to make Mac-to-Mac Internet phone calls. This beta version fixes a number of bugs.

MacGhostView 2.1.1 is a general purpose PostScript & PDF preview utility. No word on what is new in this version.

GLUON Slugger 5.1 creates and updates info on each page in QuarkXpress. This version adds improvements to color chip and color lists, it speeds up slug updates when not in use, and improves Cropster and ColorBreaker integration.

SilverFast Ai PIE 5.2.1 is driver software for PIE 1800 Filmscanner. This version is compatible with Photoshop 6, and Gamma can now be applied to the 48 bit TIFF output file, so an image imported into Photoshop will be gamma-corrected.
