Utilities Updates: MagicScan; EZIndex; MacLinkPlus; more

UMAX MagicScan update UMAX has updated MagicScan to version 4.2. You can either download the entire application (it's 33.6MB!) or just the MagicScan 4.x Updater 1.0 for Apple PowerMAC G3 (892KB). It's only listed as applicable for certain scanners (e.g., Mirage and PowerLook).

Update: Jason Lodas notes: "According to UMAX, this update is for the G3/BW's only. Trying to update MagicScan on anything else does nothing."

EZIndex 1.01 is out. This utility helps automate the creation of an index from a word processing document. The update fixes a bug in the control panel (crashed on certain computers when changing hotkeys).

MacLinkPlus Deluxe 10.1 has been released. It is now Y2K compliant.

Update: Already, two readers have complained that, although Y2K compliance is the only really new feature of the update (a new Lotus filter is also included), DataViz is charging $39.95 to upgrade - even from 10.0!

TypeIt4Me 4.8 (beta) is now available.

DeskNotes 1.1 is out. The update to this NotePad replacement fixes several bugs.

AOL Instant Messenger 2.01644 (still beta!) is now available, It adds a couple of new features.

Virtue font 3.0 is out. It's a replacement for Apple's Charcoal font. "Version 3.0 adds compatibility with Mac OS 8.5.1. It also marks a change in the font design approach of Scooter Graphics. Instead of using bitmaps, Virtue uses hand-edited TrueType instructions. This results in a smaller font size as well as an increase in readability at all point sizes."

PowerCalc Lite 3.2 has been released.
