Utilities Updates

Virtual Desktop 1.9.2 is out. This is the first public release version that works correctly with Mac OS 8.0 and 8.1 (as well as older versions back to 7.0).

Big Brother 2.0b1 is out, but you can't use it "The good news is that this new version, which has been rewritten from scratch, is much faster and much more robust than its predecessors." The bad news is that it will not work on your Mac. It will only run under Windows95/NT, Linux or Rhapsody. The author made this decision because he could not debug the Mac version sufficiently well. He blames this on "crippling limitations and idiosyncrasies in the Mac OS, inherited from the early ages." [Does this mean that Windows95 has no limitations due to its links to legacy hardware, 16-bit programs and MS-DOS?] The new version only has a command-line interface, but a graphic interface should be added within a few months.

Email Effects 1.5 is out. "With it, you can send pictures, drawings and tables with simple plain text. The new version includes a Cursor Tool for easy one-by-one character editing, a totally new 3D look, direct opening and placing of text, tables and pictures (including GIFs and JPEGs with Mac OS Easy Open and QuickTime) and many, many other improvements."
