USB Support 1.4.1 Restart glitch?

CNET staff
Emery Emery writes: "I am working with a beige Power Mac G3 running Mac OS 9.0.4 with an Entrega USB PCI card and an OrangeLink FireWire PCI card. With USB Support 1.4.1 installed, the computer would shut down and start up normally. However, if I selected Restart, either from the keyboard, the Special menu or at the request of an installer, the computer would go black and the green light/button on the front of the tower would go out. The fan would continue to spin and the computer would not restart. The only way out, is to push the green light/button/ on the front of the tower. That would kill the fan and then I could start up normally." Update: Two readers have confirmed this symptom. Barry Levine says it may be attributable to the presence of the infamous ObjectSupportLib file on the drive (see this item for background). Another reader speculates: "I believe these gitches are a limitation of having a USB card, as the beige G3's don't have ROM with USB support and when installers tell applications to quit, they might shut down some USB extensions as well."
