USB ports and a problem starting up from CDs on a G3/BW

CNET staff
Richard Platt found that holding down the C key on his USB keyboard to startup from a CD-ROM disc in his G3/BW would only work if the keyboard was connected to USB Port 2. "USB port 1 appears to not recognize the keyboard commands. Neither holding down the "C" key or pressing "Command-Option-Shift-Delete" causes a boot to the CD ROM when the keyboard is connected to port 1. On Port 1, the machine will always cycle through and boot from the hard drive. The local Apple tech told me that his technical contact at Apple had acknowledged this problem. Apparently, at least in part, it is being attributed to a timing problem." I have not seen other reports of this as yet, so cannot confirm it.
Update: A couple of readers claim to be able to startup from a CD even with the keyboard conected to Port 1.
