US Constitution becomes a best-seller after Trump comments
A pocket version of the centuries-old document is second on Amazon's best-seller list, coming in behind a Harry Potter book.
The US Constitution is hot.
The document, which turns 229 years old next month, has become an Amazon best-seller after the father of a Muslim soldier killed in Iraq pulled out a miniature copy at the Democratic National Convention last week to criticize Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
"Donald Trump, you're asking Americans to trust you with their future. Let me ask you, have you even read the United States Constitution?" he asked, shaking the pocket edition in the air. "I will gladly lend you my copy."
Since then, a $1 pocket edition of the document has climbed the internet retailer's best-seller list, coming in second only to "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."
However, the edition held up by Khizr Khan during his speech is not the same as the hot seller at Amazon but one published by the National Center for Constitutional Studies. Many Amazon shoppers have expressed outrage with the conservative group's version, which includes "ultra-right" annotations and commentary, The Intercept reported Monday.
It wasn't immediately clear when the Constitution hit the list or which ranking it held before the convention. Amazon representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
