Updating to Norton Utilities 4.0.3: a reply from Symantec

Last time, we described problems installing the Norton Utilities 4.0.3 update and a suggested work-around. Dave Lewis (of Symantec) offered this reply on the matter (largely confirming our previous report):

We are unable to reproduce any problems with the updater as long as the appropriate updater is applied. We think the users reporting this problem may have mixed versions of the Norton Utilities components on their drives. The "NDD 401 updater" updated Norton Disk Doctor only. If a user had applied this updater, they'd have a mix of 4.0 and 4.0.1 on their hard disk. They have one of two options:

1. Download the larger update, "NUM 403 updater" which updates all version of NUM 4.x to 4.0.3.
2. Replace NDD 4.0.1 with 4.0 on their hard disk and apply the "NUM 400 to 403 updater"
