Uninstalling RealPlayer

Uninstalling RealPlayer

CNET staff
Todd Talley wanted to uninstall RealPlayer 8, but could not figure out how to do so. He contacted RealNetworks for advice, They replied: "RealNetworks does provide an uninstaller with the RealPlayer. It is called g2cln. Here are instructions on removing the RealPlayer 8 software from the Macintosh OS: Quit RealPlayer and go the Real folder inside the Extensions folder of the System Folder. Double-click the g2cln icon Click the Run button in the warning dialog box. Click the Delete button to confirm that you want to remove all RealNetworks programs. Click OK in the 'Uninstall of RealPlayer is finished' dialog box. Drag the folder named 'Real' to the Trash. Click the Special menu and choose Empty Trash. Rebuild the desktop by restarting the Macintosh and holding Command and Option keys." Not exactly a procedure you would trip over while trying to figure this out on your own. Update: Jamie Loeb replies: RealNetworks tech support told me that the best way to uninstall RealAudio is to use Sherlock: Type Real in the search field and hit enter. Start dragging all RealPlayer files and folders to the trash. Empty Trash as you go and restart search on Real again. When Sherlock no longer finds any matches, then empty the trash one last time. Restart Mac and rebuild the desktop.
