Ubisoft to build theme park in Malaysia
Video game publisher Ubisoft is building a theme park in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, slated for completion in 2020.
If you've ever found yourself wishing you really could leap off a rooftop into a haystack, Ezio-style... well, you probably still won't be able to for safety reasons, but you may be able to explore the fictional Florence maps of the Assassin's Creed video game.
Game developer and publisher Ubisoft has announced that it will be building a 10,000-square-metre (107,639-square-foot) theme park based on some of its most popular game franchises in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to 2014 data from the World Tourism Organisation, Malaysia is the second-most-visited country in Asia.
The theme park will contain rides, shows and other attractions built around Ubisoft's games and characters, Ubisoft said.
Ubisoft hasn't revealed which games will be included in the park, but given the success of the award-winning Rabbids Time Machine ride at the Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers, France, it's probably safe to assume the screaming bunnies will make an appearance.
The park will be built by Malaysian theme park developer RSG, with Ubisoft retaining full creative control.
"Ubisoft's intention for this park is to immerse people in reactive worlds where they can interact with each other and become the heroes of their own life-sized game," said Jean de Rivières, senior vice president of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, in a statement. "Ubisoft will produce all digital media for the rides, and help design guests' journey into the park to ensure the visitors' experience is at its best."
The park is scheduled to open its doors in 2020.
