666 virus on Samsung CD Ilan Szekely found that the Samsung AnyCam C-10 - Macintosh Install CD was infected with the 666 Virus. He contacted Samsung about this and they replied with a partial denial: "We know that the Virex detects Acrobat on our CD-ROM as infected by the 666 virus. But I am sure there is no virus on the CD. Sometimes, compressed files are misdetected as virus. Don't worry about it, cause there are no other problems after extracting or installing." However, Ilan contends that it is the application, not just Acrobat, that is infected and that it is a real infection, not a "misdetection " Amnesia virus? Bob Olson received a file called "amnesia.jpg" in his email the other day. He found that it overwrote his Eudora Settings file and made retreiving/deleting email from his ISP's server (bellatlantic.net) impossible. He adds: "It seems the virus creates a new EudoraSettings file and renames the original EudoraSettings.bkup." [Note: Eudora normally keeps a copy of the Eudora settings in a file called 'EudoraSettings.bkup.'] We could not find any mention of such a virus at the SARC listing. Update: This turns out to be a false alarm. Dave Lewis of Symantec checked into this and found that the file is not a virus. Bob's problem must have had some other cause.
