The two sentinels of the kitchen table, salt and pepper, have stood the test of time guarding our meals against the specter of blandness. In fact, the spices add so much to food it is hard to imagine a meal without them. Yet, one important question is raised by this ubiquitous reality: why stop at two?

Gone are the days when salt and pepper seemed only to exist in a post-ground state, populating tables and kitchens everywhere only as a fine powder. Nowadays the superiority of freshly ground spices is well known with salt and pepper being available pre-ground in practically any food store. Unfortunately--at least for salt and pepper shaker collectors--that means finding a new delivery system for the spices.

The Kalorik PPG 36584 Salt and Pepper Grinder Set is a handy tabletop device that enables quick and easy grinding of not only basic salt and pepper but also for three additional spices. The rotating carousel consists of one main grinding motor in the center with five mill jars in orbit. The rechargeable base unit attaches to any one of the five filled spice jars and also activates an LED light while in use. The bottom of each mill jar can be adjusted for a grind from fine to course and they can even be used manually without the motor unit--allowing them to be used in pairs if they must.
