Twitter tops charts as best tech company to work for
Debuting on Glassdoor's 50 best places to work list for the first time, Twitter reigns over Facebook, Google, and Apple based on work satisfaction, salary, CEO leadership, and more.
In a coup d'etat, Twitter trampled all other tech companies and took the top spot in Glassdoor's 50 best places to work list for a tech business.
It beat out Facebook, Google, and Apple; and, to pour salt in its competitor's wounds, this was the first year the social network even made the top 50 list. Bain & Company took the No. 1 spot in the overall rankings.
Company review site Glassdoor annually compiles the 50 best places to work list based on comments from employees in dozens of companies. This year, more than half a million reviews were submitted that rated employers on work satisfaction, CEO leadership, salary and benefits, work and life balance, career opportunities, and culture and values.
"With the Employees' Choice Awards, we're proud to help people find jobs they love by highlighting companies that receive authentic endorsements from those who know the company best -- their employees," Glassdoor CEO and co-founder Robert Hohman said in a statement.
It's been a big year for Twitter. The social networkin November and its . And, unlike its social-networking colleagues, such as Facebook and LinkedIn, Twitter is located in downtown San Francisco -- rather than Silicon Valley. Its stylish headquarters offer employees free food, communal office space, and stunning city views.
"We're extraordinarily pleased to receive this honor, especially since it reflects what our own employees say about us," Twitter's vice president of human resources Janet Van Huysse told CNET. "It's never been a better time to join the Flock!"
Besides Twitter, 21 other tech companies made the top 50 list. For the top 5, LinkedIn came in at No. 3, and Facebook got No. 5. Google, Apple, eBay, Intel, and Salesforce also made the top 50 list.
While Google and Apple aren't in the top five, they've both made the list for the last six consecutive years -- although both have dropped places from last year, from 6 to 8 and from 34 to 35, respectively. Facebook made the list the last four years, but last year it was. So, this year, it must come as blow to drop four spots to No. 5.
