Twitter general counsel quits role, will stay on as adviser
General counsel Alex Macgillivray will leave Twitter's day-to-day operations to pursue "other passions."
Twitter General Counsel Alex Macgillivray is leaving Twitter, the ex-Googler announced on his blog Friday.
Macgillivray said Vijaya Gadde, Twitter's legal director for corporate and international issues, will eventually take over his post, but he will remain as an adviser to the legal team.
"As we transition, I will dial back my day-to-day involvement with Twitter," he wrote. "I'll continue to support the company and its great people by staying on as an adviser for the legal, trust & safety, corporate development and public policy teams. I continue to care deeply about Twitter, the folks who work at Twitter and our tremendous users, so I'll remain close to all three."
He tweeted a link to his post, saying that he would be "exploring other passions."

Macgillivray arrived at Twitter four years ago after working at Google as an associate general counsel for products and intellectual property. He was joined in 2012 by another high-profile Google lawyer, Nicole Wong, who recently left Twitter to be the White House's Internet privacy officer.
