One of the most popular ways to use Twitter on Windows is TweetDeck. With the ability to add multiple users, columns, see direct messages, and do all sorts of managing, you won't be missing many features of the website itself. But what if you're looking for a more clean and simple app that lets you use Twitter on one account? Tweetz fits the bill.

Important note: The install wizard for Tweetz contains adware that you probably don't want on your computer. Make sure to read each step carefully during the installation so you can opt out.

Let's get started:

Step 1: Download and install a copy of Tweetz. http://mike-ward.net/downloads

Step 2: To connect your Twitter account, you'll need to get an authorization PIN. Click the Get PIN button and then sign in to your Twitter account. Enter the PIN in the provided text box to sign-in from the app.

Step 3: Click the cog icon to open the Settings area. Here you can decide how you want the client to behave on your desktop. Of these options, showing inline media and show in taskbar are two of the most useful. You can also choose between a Light and Dark theme (pictured below).

The buttons across the top of the app are pretty standard, and allow you to view the timeline, replies, direct messages, favorites, and search for users or topics.

Now, if you really want to streamline your use of the client, check out these keyboard shortcuts:

  • n - compose new tweet
  • j - scroll backward on timeline, replies, messages, and favorites
  • k - scroll forward on timeline, replies, messages, and favorites
  • r - reply to current tweet
  • f - favorite current tweet
  • t - retweet current tweet (this is buggy, and cannot be undone from the app)
  • / - open search
  • Ctrl+ Home - go to top
  • Ctrl + End - go to end
  • Ctrl + Enter - send tweet
  • Ctrl + x - close Tweetz
