It's the moment I dread.

After consuming a few too many Starbucks lattes comes the crucial decision: pack up the laptop and risk losing the perfect window seat near an outlet? Or ask that guy reading the Times if he'll keep his eye on my iBook? Newspaper readers don't steal, right? Right? Decisions, decisions.

With Honest Technology's new MY-IPTV&Cam Anywhere software and hardware combo, I can watch my home TV at Starbucks and use the included camera's motion sensor to keep potential thieves' sticky fingers at bay while I'm on a bathroom break. When the camera detects movement, the computer lets off a siren sound.

The gadget's standard application is, of course, home security, not playing coffee shop cop. By connecting with a home PC, the USB 2.0-enabled TV and video capture device can provide a live surveillance feed to a remote computer, PDA or PlayStation Portable, or send you 5MB to 20MB clips of recorded video. The software works with any three cameras.

The company's MY-IPTV Anywhere technology lets you watch the channels you pay for at home on the road using MPEG-4 video compression, assuming you have broadband access.

It hits Frye's Electronics and CompUSA shelves next month for $149 minus a $20 rebate.
