Clean up the backyard.
Clean up the backyard. Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet

The backyard has long been a destination for expanding kitchen-related activities. Even the old saying, "everything but the kitchen sink," no longer applies to outdoor cooking areas; outdoor kitchen setups have had sinks available as options for quite some time. However there is one piece of the outdoor kitchen puzzle that hasn't yet made it into the design plans of backyard grillers.

The new outdoor dishwasher from Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet completes the outdoor kitchen. Unveiled this week in New York at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, the appliance will be available for purchase in summer 2011. Specifically designed for permanent outdoor use, the dishwasher features protected electronics and wiring, a stainless steel exterior and interior, and simple winterization steps that allow it to be installed in any environment.

Just because the dishwasher is helping to break new ground doesn't mean that it sacrifices usability. An oversize washtub offers ample room in between the upper and lower racks, giving plenty of space for large pots and pans, while highly focused spray zones eliminate the need for prerinsing, making even hard-to-wash cookware that has been setting over a fire suitable for washing. With room for 12 place settings, yet capable of cleaning a load with as little as 3.8 gallons of water, the versatile dishwasher looks to change how we view the backyard--and what it means to clean one up.
