TurboTax 2002 Basic for Windows incompatible with Virtual PC

TurboTax 2002 Basic for Windows incompatible with Virtual PC

CNET staff

While Intuit offers a Macintosh version of Turbo Tax Deluxe 2002, some users opt to purchase the basic Windows and use it under Virtual PC due to the higher cost of the Mac version, and special offers only provided with the PC release. With the advent of TurboTax Basic 2002 for Windows, this is no longer an option.

Paul Christensen writes:

"This year, I purchased TurboTax 2002 Basic, and discovered, after quite a bit of heartache, that it will not run under VirtualPC. The installation continues, but when it attempts to run TurboTax2002 for the first time, it crashes (Windows "illegal operation"). I'm guessing it has something to do with the new copy-protection/activation requirements in TurboTax starting this year.

"Looking at the product box, the system requirements clearly state 'This TurboTax for Windows product will not run on a Mac operating system using Windows emulation software.'"

More information on the Mac version of TurboTax Deluxe 2002 is available at Intuit's Web site.
