Troubleshooting Xserve: Server Monitor Problems

Gann Matsuda reports an Xserve problem that is restraining him from deploying the system into service, and Apple's response.

"I've never been able to get the Server Monitor application to work, either from a client machine, or from the Xserve itself (either logged in as myself with admin privileges, or as root). The Server Monitor just sits there, repeating failed attempts to contact the server. We have set up reverse DNS, so that's not the issue.

"Apple Engineering knows about the problem, and they are 'investigating it - we've had several similar reports, and they are trying to find similarities and track down the root cause.' Also, they are 'not sure what the timeframe on this is - (engineering) currently hasn't been able to reproduce the situation, but it's one of the issues they are investigating right now.'"
