Troubleshooting Virex 7.2: eUpdate solution

We previously reported several problems with the newly released Virex 7.2, which is included with Apple's .mac. The quirks include:

  • password prompts for the .Mac username and password
  • errors that say that it cannot connect to the server
  • errors that there is not enough space to save the file

Now MacFixIt reader Darrell Fulwilder offers a step-by-step solution that has already worked for a number of readers. (NOTE: Keep this information visible on your screen once you have Virex opened, as you cannot paste in the Virex preference fields.):

  1. Open Virex.
  2. Go to the Preferences pane.
  3. Check "Customize my eUpdate server settings", click the "Server Settings"
  4. button.
  5. Enter the information as follows:
  • type: FTP
  • Server URL: ftp.nai.com
  • Port: leave blank
  • username: anonymous
  • password: leave blank
  • account: leave blank
  • directory: /virusdefs/mac/virex7/

Finally, click "OK" where applicable to return to the application. eUpdate should work properly.
