Troubleshooting the PowerBook G4 17", 12": Super audio CD problems

It seems the SuperDrive mechanisms included with Apple's PowerBook G4 17" and 12" are not able to recognize CDs that use the emerging dual-layered SACD (super audio compact disc).

When an SACD is inserted, the following standard message appears "This is a blank DVD, what do you want me to do?".

MacFixIt reader Ken Stern writes:

"The dual SACD format is used most often with re-mastered CDs from the likes of The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd to name a few."
