Troubleshooting Safari Public Beta 1.0 v74: Different versions; Bank problems remain; more

Different versions MacFixIt reader Lubo Diakov notes that there are two distinct sub-versions of Safari v74, both downloadable from legal, official Apple sources. If you get Safari from this URL: http://www.apple.com/safari/download, it comes as a .dmg disc image, containing only a new Safari bundle to drag and replace your old one. However, even after doing so, Software Update (under System Preferences) still reports that you need to install Safari v74.

When you download Safari through Software Update, you get a .pkg. Double click it, and the "new" installer runs. Until that is it complains that you already have a "newer" version than the one it would install, and refuses to finish.

In order to workaround this issue, you can download both copies of Safari, one each from http://www.apple.com/safari/download and from within Software Update. Install the one from Software Update first, then the Web downloaded flavor, and you will not be persistently asked to download a "newer" version.

Bank problems remain While the new release of Safari has enabled thousands of users to finally access their previously incompatible Web banking systems, some are still having difficulties. A number of Credit Unions' bill payment systems are still not functional.

Also, a number of Citibank readers are receiving the following rejection message: "We have detected that you are using unsupported browser 5 which is not compatible with Direct Access."

Rendering issues fixed Among other page rendering improvements, Safari finally works with some sites that previously failed due to the inclusion of cascading menus.

UPDATE: Some users report an inability to log in with the Fink-installed Webmin v1.090 in SSL-mode and Safari (1.0 Beta v74); Internet Explorer 5.2.2 seems to work fine.
