Troubleshooting Retrospect 5.0: Problems with Icelandic characters

CNET staff

Brett Wickens reports a conflict with Icelandic characters in the last two versions of Retrospect 5.x (including the new release):

"Whenever I try to back up songs with Icelandic characters in them, such as those from Sigur Rós, the following errors appear in the Retrospect log - where some Icelandic characters have been replaced [Ed.- Some of the characters may not display properly depending on which browser you are using]:
  • Can't read file "?05 NyÅL batteriÅL", error -43 (file/folder not found), path: "Music/Sigur Rós/Ágætis Byrjun/?05 NyÅL batteriÅL".
  • Can't read file "?06 Hjartaethhamast", error -43 (file/folder not found), path: "Music/Sigur Rós/Ágætis Byrjun/?06 Hjarta hamast".
  • Can't read file "#07 Viethrar vel til loftaÅLraÅLsa", error -43 (file/folder not found), path: "Music/Sigur Rós/Ágætis Byrjun/#07 Virar vel til loftaÅLraÅLsa".

These files are completely visible other places in the Finder, but simply will not be backed up by Retrospect.
